Where the FAT gets stored



Dr. A.T.W. Simeons holds a brief discussion on different types of body fat and the locations on the body where it gets stored.

To begin, he groups body fat into three separate types:

• Structural fat- fat necessary to cushion joints, organs, etc.

• Normal fat reserves- a temporary and more importantly accessible reserve of excess energy consumed above the current requirements of your body (this is generally stored uniformly across all area of the body).

• Secure fat reserves- an ABNORMAL storage of excess energy (this is generally stored in specific areas that we all know…belly on men, waist and hips on women)

Dr. Simeons discusses how the body processes the food we eat into energy and how it stores the excess using the analogy of finances.

• Food is eaten, digested, and absorbed into the body as an energy source.

• Immediate demands for energy are covered by what is in the blood stream.

• If excess energy is consumed beyond what the body needs, the hypothalamus gland places it in the normal fat reserves. This is similar to a checking account where money is placed and at the ready to be used in the even you run out of cash in your pocket.

• Just like our checking accounts, when the balance begins to get too large, the hypothalamus gland begins to look for a better and more secure place to put the excess- like an IRA or 401K.

• The more secure fat stores are much like our more secure investments and are harder to access.

This makes a lot of sense to me. Many of the foods we eat are highly refined. Just look at anything on the shelf and you will most probably find some form of high fructose corn syrup or other highly refined ingredient.

These “foods” that are highly refined are very easily digested and absorbed into the body. The body spends less energy processing the foods and receives more energy for its efforts. If the last time you ate was dinner last night and forgot to eat breakfast this morning you have starved your body for 18 hours or more. So it has already slowed itself down as it began to dig into the checking account and suddenly for lunch you give it a good dose of highly dense energy.

I continually shock my system in this manner….

NO WONDER I AM OBESE!!!
